St Johns Crisis Centre has continued to provide a hot meal, sandwiches, fruit and a little treat for each person that attends the lunch service between 11.30am and 12pm at 36 Hamilton Ave Surfers Paradise. The Centre is averaging approximately 60 people per day, Monday to Friday, which equates to approx. 120 meals per day.

Welfare is conducting telephone interviews. We have equipped our welfare staff with mobile phones which they use from home and then arrange for the client to pick up assistance from our centre.

In April we have assisted over 240 households in which there are an average of 5 people per household which equated to assisting over 1200 individuals.

The vast majority were young Brazilians that had lost their jobs.

They are incredibly grateful for the assistance that we can give them during these challenging times.

“Staff and I have discussed the onslaught of Brazilians and made a unanimous decision to continue to support them as much as we can.  I know that if my child were in a similar situation overseas, I would be so very grateful that there is an organisation willing and able to help them.” Said Dianne Kozik Centre Manager.

“Our pantry is running low on non-perishable food.  Now that the limit on foods per shop has been lifted, we would appreciate assistance.” Said Clive Haddow President of St Johns Crisis Centre.  We have 12 donations bins at various Coles and Woolworths on the Gold Coast for you to make donations.

“The cost of the takeaway containers and cutlery is a mounting expense, as is the hire of a walk-in fridge, which we need to accommodate Oz Harvest and Convention Centre meals.

We think that it is terrific that Oz Harvest, Icon Training, Love this City and the Gold Coast Convention Centre are all working together to help people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have made the decision to purchase prepared food from the convention centre” Said Dianne.

RECORD NUMBERS EXPECTED AT ST JOHN’S CRISIS CENTRE CHRISTMAS LUNCH

SURFERS PARADISE, GOLD COAST, QLDMore than 120 Gold Coast residents in need are expected through the doors of St. John’s Crisis Centre to celebrate the festive season on Tuesday 17th December.

The lunch, an annual event, always filled with laughter and joy, brings some much-needed seasonal cheer not only to those families suffering the effects of homelessness, but also financial and other hardship as well as domestic violence.

The rolling Christmas lunch with all the seasonal trimmings and adornments is regularly attended by local politicians and dignitaries whose ongoing support helped St. John’s Crisis Centre serve almost 23,000 hot meals to those in need last year as well as school lunches for vulnerable children, clothes and washing and laundry facilities for the homeless and disadvantaged.

Clive Haddow, President of St. John’s Crisis Centre stated, “Christmas is always a difficult time for families suffering the effects of homelessness, financial insecurity or domestic violence, so our annual event is especially important in bringing our community together to spread some festive cheer when and where it is needed most.”

The St. John’s Crisis Centre Christmas Lunch takes place on Tuesday 17th December between 12:00-2:00pm at its crisis centre at 36 Hamilton Avenue, Surfers Paradise, 4217.
